Kinja'd!!!

Sorry for the potato photograph. I found this Nissan on my way home today, and with my newly minted authorship, figured this evening was as good a time as any to share and introduce myself. Feel free to ask me anything.

Do you like Toyota?

Kinja'd!!!

I like odd and unusual things. I don’t really have a favorite marque, but MG is near the top.

Edit:

Sorry to drop the hardcore stuff this early in the evening. This is one of my favorite car photographs.

Of course. I used to live and work in Cardiff, and the first time I ever saw one of those I yelped so loudly I made my driver jump.

Edit: the funny thing was, I was in the back of a Merc S5-something, and my response started a great conversation with my driver, who turned out to be a TVR guy with several in his stable (he was the owner of the car company).

“I made my driver jump”

WAIT A MINUTE.

Explain your reasoning for having a driver before I take away your Jalop-card.

Yes. I tend toward cars where it’s clear the owner has invested more than just an obscene amount of money. The Nissan in the photo was parked next to some sort of newish looking Jag, and I really had a hard time caring.

I was on work assignment over there, and I wasn’t allowed to drive in the UK. :-(

14' Elantra GT/i30 6MT and/or some sort of bicycle. My commute is 42 miles each way, so I can’t ride it every day. It’s a slightly warm hatch.

Daily car? Total number of cars currently owned?

First question, please see above. Second: Two, my wife’s ‘14 outback with mandatory slushbox, and mine. Alternative transportation includes several bicycles and a horse.

Edit: I speak ill of it, but with the traction control turned off and snow on the ground, the outback is good for some really fun snownuts.

Or maybe “see below”. I clearly can’t figure out how kinja plans on threading posts.

1. Don’t try to understand Kinja threading with comments. You’ll drive yourself mad. And horses are just too stubborn.

The horse is actually kind of cool, but just I prefer trials courses and singletrack to steaming shit piles.

It was in great shape for a Maine car. Interior was worn but clean, paint was decent, and no visible rust. The manual transmission was just icing on the cake. It’s also the first car I’ve ever seen where I turned around, parked, and got out to take a photo. I wasn’t sure what I’d seen, and I wanted to know. The sickness grows...

As an aside, I’m kind of semi-seriously cross-shopping a WRX, 370z, FiST and FoST. What are your thoughts on the Z as a DD where it snows? I tread my cars in Hakka R2s in the winter, but the power and RWD are... concerning.

Kinja'd!!! GhostZ > The Lurktastic Opponaught

I haven’t driven a 370Z in the snow, but rule of thumb is that with some salt, weight in the trunk and a limited slip diff, you can make do as long as you’re not buried (1 foot or more) in snow or on constant ice. A cheap winter beater is probably a safer preference though for when it gets bad, if only because it saves you from the chips/damage/depreciation of driving in winter, especially if they salt the roads there.

A Z-car forum (zcar.com, nicoclub.com) could probably answer that a bit better.

Thanks. Maine is ripe with sand pits and atv trails for the nitro buggy, and the KE175 is my intro-to-wrenching project. Sadly, I travel a lot for work, so very little actual wrenching has been done.

Beautiful. I had one of these in 2012, I’ll never forget it. I don’t like the red though, I wonder how often he gets asked if it’s a Ferrari :(

‘14 Elantra GT/i30 depending on your locale. 6 speed with just enough oomph to make it funish as a ~90 mile a day car, but not so twitchy that it’s a pain to dd in the winter. Also: cheap. I’m a stingy bastard with depreciating assets.

Thanks for not jumping to conclusions. The time I spent over there was difficult, so during my time off (since I was there without family) what I really wanted to do was explore. The train and bus systems were decent, but there were places they couldn’t reach in a reasonable amount of time, so I was always range restricted. It was a pain in the ass.

It was the targa lines that made me think it was something interesting. I was approaching head on, and the hoodline just wasn't anything I recognized.

Yeah I bet. Im thinking of doing a work assignment in that side of the world after I graduate. Pros: I’m engaged so I’ll have someone I know with me, the company I work for is global and can get me over there without too much trouble, and weve been to Europe seperatly before and kind of have a few spots we both like.

Cons: i know no foreign language, it could be expensive, and it could have the effect of boosting me forward because the experience or stalling me in my job because face time with partners is so important to moving up. Also, not sure if i could take my dog.

Lots of things to think about.

My work over there was early career. The experience and the contacts (along with other professional accomplishments) have opened doors for me I could never have imagined existed. Ymmv, but I’d advise you to do it.
